Freedmen's Town Conservancy awarded $1.375M in grants for heritage project in partnership with CAMH
Antioch Missionary Baptist Church was organized in 1866 in Houston on June 9, 2021. Jack Yates once served as pastor of the church, which was Houston's first African American Baptist congregation.Contemporary Arts Museum Houston and Houston Freedmen's Town Conservancy were awarded not one, but two prestigious grants in January. The organizations jointly received $1.25 million from the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation and $225,000 the National Endowment for the Arts.
Association."I don't think any developer comes into the community with ill intent — they do their job. This project is nothing like that. Every step is being guided by the community."
