JOHANNESBURG - Free State Education MEC Tate Makgoe has died in a car crash near Winburg.Makgoe's protector was with him and was also killed. The driver has been rushed to hospital.Makgoe led the Education department to achieve the best matric results in the country for the past four years.

A known education enthusiast, he holds several qualifications, from Chemical Engineering to Commerce and Business Leadership.He is one of the longest-serving MECs in the province.
