K9s United, a national nonprofit dedicated to supporting and advocating for law enforcement canines, provided a free two-day first aid training event for Dothan’s local and regional K9 officers and
Special to the Dothan Eagle EMS professionals. The training is aimed at equipping participants with life-saving skills for their K9 partners in the field.
More than 70 K9 teams and EMS professionals from Fort Novosel, Montgomery, LaFayette, Headland, New Brockton, Newton, Dothan, Enterprise, Eufaula, Abbeville, Warner Robins , Loxley, Mobile, Ozark, and Phenix City, along with Panama City Beach and Santa Rosa Beach, Florida, and Steele, Missouri. Critical care teams from Survival Flight 15 also participated in the crucial training that can help save a K9’s life.
People are also reading… The first aid training educated K9 officers and EMS professionals on canine physiology and anatomy, preventive first aid topics, such as heat stroke and bloat, along with point of injury medical care. The training featured 70-pound canine manikins that bark, bleed and breathe like real injured working dogs for attendees to practice administering first-aid.
“These dedicated canines exhibit a profound devotion to their work and deserve urgent care when needed. That’s why we’ve brought our free training to Dothan to ensure local and regional K9 officers and EMS professionals receive the necessary tools to increase a K9’s chances of survival during their most perilous missions,” said Johnson.
K9s United is a volunteer-based organization that relies on donations to support and advocate for hard working6 police dogs. To support K9s United’s mission, dog lovers and law enforcement supporters are encouraged to join the K9 Corps to provide these heroic dogs with the vital equipment and training they need most.
