The city of San Antonio is offering free parking at its downtown meters and garages for New Year's Eve and Day.
At the stroke of midnight marking the change from 2024 to 2025, parking will become free at street meters downtown and in the city of San Antonio 's downtown garages. The city is offering free holiday parking at its downtown meters all day Wednesday, and its parking garages — including the City Tower Garage and the St. Mary's Garage — will be free to use until 6 a.m. Thursday, according to the city's website.
However, the city has suspended its usual Downtown Tuesday free parking program on New Year's Eve to encourage people to ditch their cars and walk or use public transportation to get downtown. The bus routes for VIA Metropolitan Transit, the local transit agency, will operate on reduced 'Saturday' schedules on Tuesday, and 'Sunday' schedules on Wednesday, according to the agency's website. For example, the No. 8 route, running down St. Mary's Street into downtown, will arrive about every hour on Tuesday and Wednesday — as it would on a Saturday and Sunday — rather than on the usual half-hour frequency for a weekday
