It's free to rideThe Metropolitan Transit System's first ever all-electric rapid service launched Sunday in a limited capacity. Rapid 227 buses rolled out making trips through San Diego’s South Bay communities.
When it’s fully up and running, a total of twelve new electric buses will transport as many as 5,000 people every day between the Otay Mesa Port of Entry and Imperial Beach; running from "It was quick, easy, very accessible, very comfortable and quick and easy," said bus rider, Joe Antuna. MTS says the electric buses are quieter than the gas-powered buses, and produce zero tailpipe emissions. That’s because MTS is preparing for a very busy Monday commute.
An MTS spokesperson said,"Sunday, there were only 2 electric buses because others are charging at the facility so they are in peak form for Monday’s commuters. More electric buses will be added to the route in coming months as the charging capability expands." "Supposedly, it will help the environment. So, it won't be polluting the air, and the other thing is another route that’s more convenient to get from Imperial Beach to here.
