Pivetta’s fastball-heavy repertoire resulted in 14 swings and misses – six on his fastball, five on his sweeper, two on his cutter and another on a curveball. Ohtani struck out three times against Pivetta, chasing a high fastball out of the zone the first two times and missing a cutter at the top of the zone the third time. It was only the second time this season Ohtani has struck out three times in a game.
Three more fruitless RISP at-bats for the Red Sox came in the seventh inning against Dodgers reliever Alex Vesia.
