The collectible popcorn bucket trend has taken on a few forms. Some aim to rival the viral absurdity of Dune: Part II's sandworm design. Others stick closely to the film's theme. Then there are the intentionally inconvenient, yet clever, designs that make you wonder how they'll even function in a dark theater.
Freakier Friday takes the latter route: just like the film's body-swap premise, the popcorn bucket and soda cup have switched roles. Marcus Theatres unveiled a first look at the upcoming collectible. While the design appears simple, with standard film artwork wrapped around it, it comes with a quirky twist. The roles of the popcorn bucket and soda cup have been swapped. The soda cup is actually a popcorn container with a plastic lid. In contrast, the"popcorn bucket" is a giant soda cup topped with a plastic lid shaped like popcorn. It's a fun gimmick, but one that might confuse moviegoers in the dark, as there's a real chance someone could grab the wrong one and accidentally spill their snack or drink. This isn't the first time a collectible popcorn bucket has an absurdist design that has one question is its practicality in a cinema setting. The popcorn bucket for The Lord of the Rings: War of the Rohirrim was a 27-inch-long warhammer. Meanwhile, the popcorn bucket for Dog Man was a literal dog bowl with the film's characters and title wrapped around it. What's 'Freakier Friday' About? Freakier Friday is the sequel to the 2003 film, Freaky Friday, with Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan reprising their roles as Tess and Anna Coleman. Also returning to the"Freakquel" are Mark Harmon as Ryan, Chad Michael Murray as Jake, Haley Hudson as Peg, and Lucille Soong as Peg's mom. This feature is now directed by Nisha Ganatra, and also stars Julia Butters , Sophia Hammons , Manny Jacinto , Vanessa Bayer , and Christina Vidal . Just like in the original film, Tess and Anna swap bodies, but this time, they’re not the only ones. In Freakier Friday, two more characters get pulled into the chaos: Anna’s daughter, Harper, and her soon-to-be stepdaughter, Lily. Both girls take over the bodies of the adults, while Anna and Tess find themselves in the bodies of the children. Taking full advantage of the situation, Lily and Harper scheme to end the relationship before the wedding, leading to a fresh round of body-swap-fueled hijinks.
