The family of Casey Goodson Jr. will receive $7 million as part of a settlement plan that will be paid out over three years after former sheriff's deputy Jason
Casey Goodson Jr, 23, was shot and killed by a deputy permanently assigned to the U.S. Marshal’s fugitive task force Dec. 4, 2020.
A federal civil lawsuit against the county filed by the family in 2021 remains stayed until the conclusion of Meade's criminal trial. "This has been a very long difficult process," Commissioner John O'Grady said. "More so for the family." Brian Steel, president of the local FOP union that covered Meade, called the shooting a tragedy for both families.
