0 jerseys bearing his name and number on them without the slugger’s consent and without compensating him, which they say violates the Illinois Right of Publicity Act., made their debut last season, with Thomas’ complaint pegging a start date of April 2025 for sales of the jerseys with his name on them."The complaint we filed alleges violations of the Illinois Right to Publicity Act," said Thomas' attorney William T. Gibbs in a statement provided to ESPN."Companies may not profit from anyone's identity without their permission. We believe our filing speaks for itself." Thomas, a two-time MVP with the White Sox who hit 521 homers in a career that spanned from 1990 to 2008, was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2014. Thomas spent 16 of his 19 seasons with the White Sox, massing 448 home runs, 1,465 RBI’s, and a batting average of .307. He is the team’s all-time leader in runs, doubles, home runs, and RBI’s.
