The Little Angels Memorial Service at Assumption Catholic Cemetery and Mausoleum in Glenwood remembered 27 unborn babies that did not survive past 20 weeks in the womb.

The Rev. Phil Cyscon, center, leads a memorial service June 12, 2024, at Assumption Catholic Cemetery in Glenwood for lives that did not survive past 20 weeks in the womb. On a warm, summer afternoon about 14 staff members from Franciscan Health Olympia Fields gathered around a burial marker to remember the lives of 27 unborn babies.

“It’s just part of our Catholic tradition, just to care for every soul, so it was important to do something … to kind of commemorate their life, as short as it was,” Crosby said. A nearby memorial bench built to honor the lost babies is engraved with a Bible verse from the book of Jeremiah: “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you; before you were born I sanctified you.”
