A France international is reportedly set to confirm his international allegiance switch to Africa in the coming hours. SLInt MORE:

Olympique Lyonnais midfielder Houssem Aouar is reportedly set to announce that he has opted to represent Algeria, rather than France, at international level, according to Aouar has been highly coveted by the Algerian football federation, and it seems that their perseverance is set to be rewarded with the player reportedly ready to commit to playing for the Desert Foxes in the coming hours.

However, despite the upcoming announcement, there is no guarantee that the 24-year-old playmaker will make Djamel Belmadi’s squad which will take on Niger in their 2024 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers later this month as he is coming back from an injury. and as it was a friendly against Ukraine back in 2020, he is not obligated to represent the 2022 FIFA World Cup finalists and was therefore free to choose to represent another country.

Whilst Aouar’s international future looks set to be resolved, his club future remains up in the air. Having come through the academy at Lyon, rumours suggest he has been linked with a departure from the French giants. His contract with Les Gones expires at the end of the season amid speculation he could leave as a free agent in June. The playmaker has garnered interested from the likes of Napoli, AS Roma, Real Betis and Eintracht Frankfurt.
