City streets across France are deserted as the country enters strict lockdown
The Eiffel Tower, Champs-Élysées avenue and the Sacre Coeur Basilica in Paris were desolate on Tuesday. President Emmanuel Macron's new lockdown measures came into force at midday to stop COVID-19 spread. Citizens are not allowed out unless for special reasons, like essential shopping, and documents are required.
