Shaun Edwards reveals that France are confident Antoine Dupont will play against the Springboks on Sunday.
The France captain, who is regarded as one of the greatest players in world rugby, sustained a facial fracture in the comprehensiveHowever, both Dupont and the French team explored every avenue to get him back in time for the quarter-finals, witheven reporting that he had met with a specialist to mould a protective face mask that adheres to World Rugby’s regulations.
On Monday, it was confirmed by French Rugby Federation that “following his medical visit with the surgeon who operated on him, Antoine Dupont obtained authorisation to resume rugby training.”, Edwards revealed that Dupont’s status has now changed from being green-lit to ‘return-to-training’ to ‘available and in contention for selection’ against the Springboks.
“What’s important is he hasn’t lost any weight. He was able to take on yoghurts and protein shakes the morning after his injury which was vital because he’s so ripped, and that muscle disintegrates if it’s not fed. There’s not an ounce of fat on him,” writes the France defence coach. “He’s been in and around camp, training on his own with the fitness guys. We’re confident he’ll be able to play against the Springboks on Sunday.
