) - FOX10 News concluded 12 straight hours of live Mardi Gras coverage Tuesday, with multiple reporters and anchors broadcasting from the heart of Fat Tuesday celebrations across Mobile and Baldwin counties.
The news team covered six major parades throughout the day, bringing viewers crowds and carnival magic from across the region. Families lined parade routes as krewes rolled through the streets in what anchors called “a Fat Tuesday to remember.” The FOX10 crew set up in front of the Mobile Chamber of Commerce in downtown Mobile, where packed crowds gathered for the Fat Tuesday celebration. Reporter Brendan Kirby noted getting photobombed during the live coverage.Meterologist Nicholas Herboso and sports director Emily Cochran described the atmosphere as “a day of nothing but happy,” noting they didn’t see anyone without a smile. Six different parades moved through Mobile streets during the day: the Order of Athena, Knights of Revelry, King Felix, Comic Cowboys, MAMGA, and the Order of Myths. Reporter Natalie Williamson covered the festivities from St. Anthony Street, while other team members positioned themselves throughout the parade routes. Lee Peck, covering the parades, encountered an old friend, Mystics Johnson, along the route during the live broadcast. In Baldwin County, Gulf Shores held its 47th annual Fat Tuesday parade on Highway 59. Reporter Hal Scheurich covered the event, describing floats, marching bands and massive crowds taking over the beach town. “There are a lot of excited people right here and we have got this parade rolling and you just saw the first entry of 50 go by us,” Scheurich said. Reporter Daeshen Smith broadcast from Orange Beach, where the parade rolled down Perdido Beach Boulevard behind him as floats lined up for the procession. Traditional Mardi Gras throws including beads, stuffed animals and MoonPies fell from parade floats throughout the day.
