Safe Haven Baby Boxes Founder Monica Kelsey was in Dothan on Friday as part of the unveiling, and brought an infant doll to the ceremony to signify its importance.

The new baby box becomes the fourth installed in the state of Alabama, giving those not ready to be parents a loving option.DOTHAN, Ala. - Dothan is now the home of Alabama’s fourth baby box--giving those not ready to be parents a loving option.

That is hard these days, with everything under a microscope and society judging our every move. Monica knows because, as an infant, her mother abandoned her.That option for Dothan began Friday, when Monica placed this baby box at the Dothan Fire Department’s downtown location. When a struggling parent puts their child in this box, an alarm alerts firefighters who take the baby from the box.“I was telling the guys here earlier that it’s not a matter of if this box gets used, it’s a matter of when,” said Kelsey.
