There are so many things that have happened in the world of college football over the last three years that have made it an entirely different sport than what we've been watching for the last century. The ability to pay players for their name, image, and likeness , combined with the transfer portal creating de facto free agency have created a parity in the sport like we haven't seen maybe ever.
As a result, schools like SMU, Indiana, and Boise State can, with a straight face, say they are among the best teams in the country. Now, with the 12-team playoff, the final pillar of seismic change in college football, they will get a chance to prove it.
The five conference champions are Oregon , Georgia , Boise State , Arizona State , and Clemson . That means the seven at-large teams are Texas , Penn State , Notre Dame , Ohio State , Tennessee , Indiana , and SMU . Let the outrage begin as the SEC not only got fewer teams selected than the Big Ten, but the final at-large bid went to SMU, who is brand new to the Power Four this season, in their first season in the ACC after several years in the American.
