Manchester United are preparing for their first Champions League game with Bayern Munich since being eliminated by Atletico Madrird in the 2021/22 campaign
Manchester United will make their return to the Champions League against Bayern Munich on Wednesday night. The Reds finished third in the Premier League last season to secure their place in the group stages, where they will take on Bayern, Copenhagen and Galatasaray.
Looking back to the last side United fielded in the Champions League against Atletico Madrid in 2022, only four players that featured would expect to be fighting for a place in the starting XI, this time around.
The German coach was never intended to be a long-term appointment, whereas Ten Hag offers a clearer direction and greater authority in the role. The United boss built up plenty of credit with his league finish, plus performances in cup competitions, and will want to build a side that is capable of competing for the sport’s biggest prize, once again.
Having won the famous trophy three times, the Reds have a wonderful history in the European Cup. Now the Dutchman has to live up to that legacy.
