KOTA KINABALU: The four Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) Members of Parliament will defend their positions in the Dewan Rakyat amid continued efforts by Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) to unseat them.
Ranau MP Datuk Jonathan Yasin and Batu Sapi MP Khairul Firdaus Akbar Khan were both defiant, expressing their intentions to defend the seats won in the previous 15th General Election, “no matter what.”
According to the party’s April 17 application to initiate judicial review, Bersatu said Johari's decision to not vacate the seats in Papar, Batu Sapi, Ranau and Sipitang, was “tainted with illegality” and that Johari erred in his decision.Khairul Firdaus said they will let the court decide on the matter, as they were going to defend their seats.
“My position is clear, I stood under a GRS ticket, and my political membership is with GRS before the nomination day to date. I never left GRS,” he said.Bersatu had attempted to vacate the four MPs’ seats under GRS as the party claimed that the four were Bersatu members who contested under GRS ticket.
