Four of the five defendants in the case of Cailee's tragic death appeared in court for a youthful offender hearing. Judge Ben Brooks denied YO status for all four, as the state believes Lucky fired the fatal shot. The only defendant who did not appear was Ariel Curry, who is over 21 and ineligible for YO status. The case is expected to go to trial next year.

Four of the five defendants appeared in court Wednesday afternoon for a youthful offender hearing.Judge Ben Brooks denied YO status for all four.

The only defendant who didn’t appear Wednesday was Ariel Curry. Curry is over the age of 21 and doesn’t qualify for youthful offender. As many remember, Cailee was tragically killed during a drive-by shooting in December of 2023 while she was sleeping on her couch.According to testimony, the state believes Lucky is the one who fired the fatal shot that killed Cailee.District Attorney Keith Blackwood says they don’t anticipate this case going to trial until next year.

“This is a five co-defendant capital murder case. It’s obviously a very important and high-priority case for our office and for the justice system,” Blackwood said. “These cases do take time. Especially when we’re talking about a capital murder. We do have a status that’s set next month, but I do not expect this to go to trial in 2025. Years ago these cases could’ve taken five years or more. I don’t expect it to take that long.
