The Statue of Responsibility was proposed for Utah in Nov. 2023, after efforts to construct it in California failed. The statue, envisioned by Holocaust survivor and philosopher Viktor Frankl, is said to be a supplement to New York City's Statue of Liberty. If enough funds are raised, the 300-foot statue will be constructed on the former site of the Utah State Prison, at the Point of the Mountain. Officials said that the money going toward the development of the statue would be provided by state organizations only and would not rely on tax dollars.Steven Cohen, president and CEO of the foundation, will lead Tuesday's discussion at the State Capitol.

He will be joined by Gary Lee Price - the sculptor of the statue - and SORF Sr. Vice President Leesa Clark-Price.One 2News viewer called the statue an "eyesore" while another said authorities should "focus on getting functional items to The Point."Another viewer called the statue a sellout "to some kind of Hollywood, California mentality."

Some expressed their excitment over the proposal, with one person sharing, "This has been a 25-plus year process that I am so happy to see getting through the approval process. When people think of Utah, they will think of Responsibility. So many tourists come to Utah for skiing, hiking, biking, National Park visits, rock crawling, etc... They will visit the Statue and know where Utah stands as far as being responsible citizens of this great country.
