Forward progress stopped on border fire in East County; evacuation warning lifted [Breaking]

Forward progress has been stopped on a brush fire that crossed the U.S.-Mexico border Thursday near Tecate, and the evacuation warning for the area has been lifted, Cal Fire officials said Friday.

The fire burned four acres on the U.S. side of the border near Tecate Peak, Cal Fire Capt. Mike Cornette said. No homes were destroyed and no injuries were reported.“We still do have some crews down there trying to secure the north end of the fire,” Cornette said. “We’re nearing containment on our side.”— CAL FIRE/SAN DIEGO COUNTY FIRE The fire, sparked Wednesday afternoon near Tecate, quickly burned more than 450 acres just south of the border before crossing over, Cornette said.

The fire scorched remote vegetation and was threatening homes off Tecate Mission Road near Tecate Road Thursday evening, in an area just north of the international border, Cornette said. No mandatory evacuation orders were put in place, but authorities issued an evacuation warning to residents in the area. The warning was lifted around 1:30 p.m. Friday.
