A Fort Worth officer was fired Thursday, April 11, 2024, following an investigation into his shooting of a man in 2022. , Fort Worth police officials said in a news release. Barron had been with the department for 10 years and was assigned to the patrol bureau at the time of the shooting. The incident stemmed from a burglary in progress call. Officers responded to an automotive repair shop on White Settlement Road. A man, later identified as Frank Pierce, drove away in a black Range Rover left at the shop for service.Officers found the car about 20 minutes later and pursued it for 10 minutes. When Pierce tried to make a U-turn at Northwest 28th Street and Chestnut Avenue, police said he drove into a retaining wall at the corner of the intersection.
Police Chief Neil Noakes said in a video update that the driver attempted to reach under the front seat and break out the front windshield. Barron, who was standing on the driver’s side of the car, fired his patrol rifle once.Police officials wrote in a news release that Barron was placed on administrative duty following the shooting, and the internal affairs unit began its investigation.
