An apartment tenant who fatally shot a maintenance worker in Fort Worth was sentenced to 31 years in prison.
A memorial was setup in honor of Carlos Aybar outside of the Marq at West 7th apartments in Fort Worth on April 27, 2023. Devin Smith was arrested in the shooting death of Aybar, pleaded guilty to a murder charge and was sentenced to 31 years in prison.Carlos Aybar, 30, was fatally shot in the apartment complex office at The Marq on West 7th Street on April 21. He was a maintenance man, according to attorney James Trujillo.
One of the attorneys, James Trujillo, said he believed the paperwork Smith was in the office complaining about was a quarantine notice for Smith to take his dog to animal control. A GoFundMe page for Aybar’s family said he “left behind a beautiful 4-year-old son, a loving mother and extended family.”The page, which raised more than $29,000 called the shooting “a heinous, senseless act of violence” and said Aybar “died a hero protecting his coworker.”‘Undone because of you’: Family of slain Dallas man faces killers in court, Breaking News Reporter.
