and local elected officials, asserting the chief medical examiner has been slow-rolling providing death certificate in retribution for a tense phone call.

Attorneys representing Yvette Atkinson filed the lawsuit in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Texas against Medical Examiner Stephen Pustilnik,DEADLIEST YEAR ON RECORD“I’ve worked plenty of weird cases, but this is its own kind of weird” said Ty Clevenger, the attorney representing Atkinson.

“Mr. Atkinson likely took his own life at least in part because the COVID-19 pandemic caused serious harm to his business,” according to the lawsuit. “That business was the family’s sole source of income.”
