Fort Bend Austin is 6-4 in district with Travis (6-5), Hightower (6-5), Clements (5-5)...

The Fort Bend Austin baseball team climbed to third place in District 20-6A after wins against Dulles and Elkins. Six teams were in contention for three playoff spots with less than three weeks remaining.Five baseball teams were separated by no more than two games in the middle of District 20-6A by the end of Tuesday night.

"We competed well," Austin coach Ruben Cano said."We hit some balls on the screws and they just didn't get down. We kept fighting. We kept focusing on pitch by pitch. We have a saying around here, just focus on the next 200 feet in front of you. I think we did a great job of that tonight, ended up going our way."

Elkins scored four runs in the second with the help of a throwing error on a bunt. Phillips worked into the fifth for Austin, allowing two earned runs and striking out five. Aside from first-place Ridge Point, which improved to 11-0 on Tuesday, there is not much separation in 20-6A. George Ranch ended the night in second place at 7-3, leading a pack looking for the last three playoff spots.
