A former American politician has declared several members of his family dead in Israel’s latest missile attack on a Gaza church Friday night.

Justin Amash, who was a U.S Rep till 2021 and the first Palestinian-American congressman in the States, wrote on social media that several of his relatives had been killed at the Saint Porphyrius Orthodox Church in the Gaza Strip, after a section of the complex was “destroyed” in an airstrike.

About 500 people are estimated to have been sheltering at the church when it was struck. Gaza’s health ministry - governed by Hamas – confirmed 16 had been killed. The Orthodox Patriarchate of Jerusalem, which operates the site, condemned Israel for directing attacks at holy places of Christian faith.
