Applause and recognition were in order as Nuclear Threat Initiative co-founder and former U.S. Senator Sam Nunn took the stage at Ingalls Shipbuilding.

PASCAGOULA, Miss. -

“The people that work here have done a tremendous job and continue to,” said Sam. “And the people who will serve on this vessel to protect our nation’s security and keep the seaways open, there will be people who will be very proud of it.” Ingalls Shipbuilding DDG Program manager Ben Burnett says more than 11,000 shipbuilders work at Ingalls, all of which are responsible for different roles during the shipbuilding process. Burnett says construction for DDG 133 began in 2022 and is 25% complete so far.

DDG 133 was named in 2019 under former Navy Secretary Richard Spencer. Current Navy Secretary Carlos del Toro says the namesakes inspire sailors at sea.
