Former Rep. Mark Meadows speaks during a forum on House and GOP Conference rules for the 118th Congress, at the FreedomWorks office in Washington, D.C., on November 14, 2022.Newly released transcripts from the House select committee investigating the January 6, 2021, breach of the U.S. Capitol building reveal that one of former President Donald Trump’s top aides regularly burned documents in a White House fireplace in the weeks preceding the violent attack on Congress.
Hutchinson told the committee that the burning of documents occurred a dozen or so times in December 2020 and January 2021 — weeks during which Trump and his political allies were attempting to overturn President Joe Biden’s win in the 2020 presidential election.
