A former teacher at a North Texas daycare has been sentenced to prison after pleading guilty to charges related to giving cannabis-infused edibles to multiple young children under her care.

A former teacher at a North Texas daycare has pleaded guilty to multiple charges of injury to a child following the hospitalization of several young children who ingested cannabis-infused edibles. Police responded to reports of four children, aged between 12 and 18 months, being hospitalized due to exposure to the candies. An investigation revealed that 36-year-old Anisah Burks, a former employee at Primrose School of Prosper, was responsible for the incident.

Burks entered guilty pleas to four counts of injury to a child and one count of manufacture/delivery of a controlled substance, all of which are felony charges. She was subsequently sentenced to one year in prison for each count of injury to a child, and three years for the controlled substance charge. The sentences will be served concurrently.Parents whose children attended the facility expressed shock and urged the school to implement measures to prevent similar occurrences in the future. Prosper officials commended the cooperation of Primrose School of Prosper and the public during the investigation. In a statement released to WFAA, Primrose School of Prosper confirmed that Burks had been immediately terminated after the incident and had undergone background checks prior to her employment, as per standard protocol. The school emphasized that they believe this to be an isolated incident involving a single teacher and expressed their hope for the swift recovery of the affected children
