Afternoon FastCast April 9, 2024 ANCHORAGE , Alaska - An attorney representing former teacher’s aide Juwan Harris entered a not guilty plea at an arraignment in Anchorage Tuesday morning.
Police officers spoke with the 10-year-old victim in front of his parents. The 10-year-old told officers he and others were playing in the snow before school started when Harris told them to get out of the snow and line up for school. The boy said he went to line up and Harris grabbed him by his collar and pushed him up against a wall more than once while yelling at him. He said he felt pain in the back of his head and throat and was frightened by the encounter.
“I believe what he was trying to do is protect and keep the student safe which is what our number one job is when students are on school grounds,” Carlisle said. “And he did his best to ensure the safety of the student by asking him to remove himself from the snow berm.”
