Matt Queen pleaded guilty to making a false statement to federal investigators. His lawyer says he likely won’t spend time in prison.A former professor and administrator at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth pleaded guilty to a felony this week after being charged with making a false statement to FBI investigators.Queen was charged in May with making a false statement to federal agents and falsifying evidence relevant to the Justice Department’s investigation.
“All my actions in this matter were motivated by the desire to do what was right for an alleged victim, even when it meant standing against the malicious actions of Queen and other men who are now former employees but were in positions of authority at the time,” she wrote.“I am grateful for the diligence of the Office of the U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York for holding Queen accountable for his criminal actions while serving as interim provost at Southwestern.
In November 2022, a Southwestern employee now known to be Terri Stovall received a report of sexual abuse perpetrated by a seminary student, according to the indictment. The indictment said she reported that allegation to campus police, but the seminary took no further action and did not report the charge to the U.S. Attorney as the subpoena required.
Queen allegedly gave what he called meeting notes to federal investigators to corroborate his claim that he had not heard the conversation about making a document “go away.”
