Molly Tuter, Alaska's first WNBA athlete, has died at the age of 49.
ANCHORAGE, Alaska - Former Soldotna Star and 2-time Alaska Gatorade Player of the Year selection Molly Tuter has died, a family member confirmed Tuesday.
Tuter helped lead the Stars to their only state championship in girls basketball, defeating Peninsula rival Kenai Central in 1993.Her career then took her down south to Arizona State University. Across four years with the Sun Devils, Tuter amassed 1,374 points, 650 rebounds, and 221 steals. Tuter then transitioned to the coaching ranks. She started first at the University of California Los Angeles, joining the Bruins as a part-time coach with the women’s team for two years before moving into the same role at UC Irvine.
