Le Casematte is a collaboration of the vision of Gianfranco Sabbatino and the energy of former Juventus soccer player Andrea Barzagli.

The Le Casematte vineyards, which overlook the Strait of Messina, are located in Faro Superiore, the hilltop village that gives the Faro DOC its name.was founded in 2008, created from the vision of Gianfranco Sabbatino, an accountant by profession and a dedicated winemaker by passion. He was later joined by, a former professional soccer player from Florence, Italy. The winery’s story is further enriched by the guidance of Carlo Ferrini, Italy’s most renowned oenologist.

Le Casematte’s vineyard surface covers around 27 acres about at an altitude of more than 1,640 feet above sea level. It is organically farmed, cultivating native Sicilian varieties such asSabbatino’s mission is to revive and promote the Faro DOC viticulture, which was nearly lost following the devastating 1908 Messina earthquake. This designation is a symbol of Sicily’s rich viticultural heritage, recognized for producing some of the island’s most elegant and distinctive wines.

A, For Gianfranco, passion was the driving force. After studying economics and working as an accountant, his first encounter with the wine world nearly 28 years ago prompted him to leave everything behind and fully dedicate himself to Le Casematte. Gianfranco’s dedication also inspired Andrea, a true Tuscan with a hidden love for wine, who now actively participates in the daily operations of the winery.

Le Casematte produces around 50,000 bottles a year in order to be faithful to its 'small is beautiful' philosophy.Q, You’ve both been on this journey together for quite some time now.
