Grand opening, grand closing for Seattle’s former starting right tackle.

Less than a week ago, Field Gulls compiled a list of former Seattle Seahawks who are in this season’s United Football League. One ex-Seahawk on the coaching staff was Super Bowl champion offensive lineman Breno Giacomini, who was hired by the newly established Louisville Kings as an OL coach.

After just one game, Giacomini revealed on his Instagram page that he’s been let go. The Kings took a 15-13 loss to the Birmingham Stallions to open up their inaugural season. Quarterback Jason Bean was only sacked once but Louisville had just 11 carries for 19 yards out of its running backs. Giacomini was with the Seahawks from 2010 through 2013, ending his time in Seattle with a Super Bowl ring as the team’s starting right tackle. Sometimes his physical style during the play would spill over to post-whistle, and on the odd occasion there would be a personal foul penalty against him and/or the opposition. This was Giacomini’s first coaching job since his NFL days ended in 2018, and it was also a homecoming as a University of Louisville alum. The reasoning for his departure was never articulated by Breno and no official statement has come from the Kings.
