Shane Waldron, the former offensive coordinator for the Seattle Seahawks, has been hired by the Jacksonville Jaguars as their passing game coordinator. This move reunites Waldron with former Rams colleague Liam Coen, who is now the Jaguars' head coach.
Another former Seattle Seahawks assistant has found a new position. On Thursday, ESPN's Jeremy Fowler reported that the Jacksonville Jaguars are hiring former Seahawks offensive coordinator Shane Waldron as their passing game coordinator . Waldron served as Seattle's offensive play-caller from 2021 to 2023, marking the final years of the Pete Carroll era. Most recently, Waldron held the offensive coordinator position for the Chicago Bears in 2024 but was let go after nine games.
Despite a promising 4-2 start where the Bears scored at least 24 points four times, their offensive production significantly dipped, managing only 27 points across their subsequent three games, including a dismal three points against the New England Patriots in Week 10. As the Jaguars' passing game coordinator, Waldron will report to new head coach Liam Coen and offensive coordinator Grant Udinski. Udinski was among a group of candidates who interviewed twice with the Seahawks before they ultimately hired Klint Kubiak as their offensive coordinator. While Waldron and Udinski haven't previously worked together on a coaching staff, Waldron and Coen have a history of collaboration. From 2018 to 2020, both were part of Sean McVay's coaching staff with the Los Angeles Rams. Waldron held the role of passing game coordinator, while Coen worked as an assistant wide receivers coach and later as an assistant quarterbacks coach. The Seahawks will face the AFC South in 2025, which includes a road trip to Jacksonville during the season. Notably, Waldron had already been fired before Seattle's game against Chicago in 2024, making this the Seahawks' first encounter with Waldron since he left Seattle after the 2023 season
