A former school bus driver in upstate New York confessed Wednesday to bribing a 12-year-old student for sexually explicit photos using"nicotine and other gifts."

The ex-driver, 62-year-old Frederick Haresign, pleaded guilty to the charge of sexual exploitation of a child, federal prosecutors said Thursday.Haresign accepted a plea deal that carries a 10-year prison sentence and 20 years of supervised release, according to a report.The former Golden Sun Bus Service driver was first arrested on April 29, 2021, authorities said.

In 2017, he gave the young girl cigarettes, money, and gifts, including a Nikon digital camera, the report noted. In the next eight months, the 12-year-old used that camera to send Haresign at least 50 sexually explicit photos and videos, according to the report.His home was searched by police, and authorities reportedly uncovered images of the young girl, including one where a school bus seat is visible behind her.

Haresign is slated to be sentenced on July 20, and he will be required to register as a sex offender.A possible $250,000 fine could also be handed down.
