Ricardo Berron, a former TV journalist in San Diego, faces charges of racially motivated shootings on Palomar Mountain. Two separate incidents, targeting Hispanic victims, are under investigation as potential hate crimes. Forensic evidence links Berron to the shootings, with prosecutors seeking hate crime enhancements.

Former San Diego TV journalist Ricardo Berron, aged 46, has been arrested and accused of racially motivated shootings on Palomar Mountain, a secluded mountain highway. The San Diego County Sheriff's Office arrested Berron at San Diego International Airport on Tuesday, March 10, as he prepared to depart on a vacation. Forensic evidence has reportedly linked the former Univision and Telemundo reporter to two separate shooting incidents on Palomar Mountain.

The incidents, which are now being investigated as potential hate crimes, have sent shockwaves through the community, particularly given Berron's former position within the media. The investigation is ongoing, and authorities are working to determine the full extent of the alleged crimes and any potential motivations behind them.\The first shooting, which occurred on October 6 along South Grade Road near the summit of Palomar Mountain, involved a victim identified by Fox 5 San Diego as Joseph. According to Joseph's account, the attack happened around 9:30 p.m. as he was parked along Highway 76, enjoying the scenic view. He reported seeing a silhouette holding a rifle and wearing a hoodie. The gunman allegedly questioned Joseph about his ethnicity, asking if he was Mexican, before opening fire. Despite raising his hands and pleading with the gunman, Joseph was shot in the arm after stating he was Mexican. The bullet shattered his car window and severely damaged his arm. Although injured, Joseph managed to drive away, escaping the scene after hearing a second shot hit his rear tire. He sought help at a nearby home and was later transported to Palomar Medical Center, where doctors were able to save his arm. The second shooting took place on February 23 in the same area. In this incident, a man sitting in his parked vehicle reported that a gunman approached and fired a single shot through the driver's side window, narrowly missing him. The details of this second incident mirror the first in location and potential targeting based on ethnicity.\Following the arrest, authorities executed a search warrant at Berron's Chula Vista home and recovered a 9-millimeter handgun, which investigators believe was used in at least one of the shootings. Both victims of the attacks were Hispanic, and officials have stated that the suspect made statements about their ethnicity before firing. The prosecution is pursuing hate crime enhancements in the case, reflecting the alleged racially motivated nature of the attacks. When approached outside his home, Berron declined to comment and drove away without answering questions, as reported by Fox 5. His wife has denied the allegations, asserting that authorities have the wrong person. Berron has been released on bail and was scheduled to appear in court on March 17. Legal counsel for Berron could not be reached for comment. The case has raised concerns about hate crimes and the impact of racially motivated violence within the community, prompting further investigations into the motives and potential biases that may have fueled the alleged actions
