A former Rockdale Independent School District teacher turned herself in to authorities on Tuesday after having an inappropriate relationship with a student.
Shawnee Nicole Despain, a former Rockdale High School teacher, was arrested on charges of child pornography and improper relations with a student. The charges, which include possession/promotion of child pornography and an improper relationship between an educator and student, stem from a Rockdale Police Department investigation into her conduct while employed at Rockdale Independent School District. Despain surrendered on Nov. 7 with bonds set at $200,000 for the child pornography charge and $150,000 for the improper relationship charge. These allegations surfaced after Rockdale ISD reported potential misconduct to the police on Sept. 21, leading to her immediate suspension and subsequent resignation four days later."The allegations against Ms. Despain are a grave violation of our district's policies and code of conduct, and we take them very seriously," said Dr.
The district said it will continue to cooperate with law enforcement during their investigation and provide the necessary support and resources to its students and families affected by the incident.
