Former Proud Boys leader Enrique Tarrio was sentenced to 22 years in prison Tuesday after being convicted of seditious conspiracy in the Jan. 6, 2021 U.S. Capitol riot.Tarrio was not at the Capitol on Jan. 6, but prosecutors argued that he organized and oversaw the riot. Prosecutors sought a 33-year sentence.
" Tarrio and others"saw themselves as Donald Trump’s army, fighting to keep their preferred leader in power no matter what the law or the courts had to say about it," said a prosecutor during the trial.Three other Proud Boys were also convicted of seditious conspiracy over the riot, and were sentenced to between 15 and 18 years in jail.Left- and center-rated sources described the Proud Boys with phrases like"violent neo-fascist gang" and"militant far-right group.
