Lindsey Halligan, a former federal prosecutor, faces a Florida Bar investigation regarding her conduct, including actions related to pursuing charges against President Trump's political opponents and misrepresenting her role as U.S. attorney after her appointment was invalidated.

FILE - Lindsey Halligan speaks with a reporter outside of the White House, Wednesday, Aug. 20, 2025, in Washington. Lindsey Halligan , the former federal prosecutor who sought charges against President Donald Trump ’s political opponents, is under investigation by the Florida Bar for her conduct.

The association wrote in a letter to the watchdog Campaign for Accountability last month that it was aware of Halligan’s actions. She pursued indictments in September against New York Attorney General Letitia James and former FBI Director, both of whom have had issues with Trump, and presented herself as eastern Virginia’s U.S. attorney despite a court order invalidating her appointment. “We are aware of these developments and have been monitoring them closely,” the Florida Bar, which Halligan is a part of, said.Campaign for Accountability had asked the Florida and Virginia bar associations to investigate her. It said in its letter to the organizations that Halligan’s actions represented a “serious breach of her ethical obligations.” The National News Desk has been unable to reach her to request comment. “The Bar has a responsibility to hold Ms. Halligan accountable for abusing her position and her bar license for improper purposes,” the watchdog wrote. “Failing to discipline Ms. Halligan under these egregious circumstances will embolden others who would use our system of justice for their own political ends.” Halligan said in a filing for another case in January, less than two months after her appointment was invalidated, that she wasn't misrepresenting herself. District Judge“‘The basis for Ms. Halligan’s identification of herself as the United States Attorney, notwithstanding Judge Currie’s contrary ruling’ is that, in the Government’s view, Ms. Halligan is the United States Attorney, and Judge Currie’s ruling did not and could not require the United States to acquiesce to her contrary legal reasoning outside of those cases,” Halligan wrote. She left the Department of Justice soon after the filing. Attorney General Pam Bondi, who announced Halligan’s exit, said there were “unnecessary legal obstacles” in the lawyer’s way. “The circumstances that led to this outcome are deeply misguided,” Bondi said. “We are living in a time when a democratically elected President’s ability to staff key law enforcement positions faces serious obstacles.” Both of Virginia’s U.S. senators, Democrats Mark Warner and Tim Kaine, who are very influential in confirming nominations for the state’s head federal prosecutor position, appeared unsurprised by Halligan’s exit. “Neither she nor the White House ever reached out to meet with us or even introduce herself,” the lawmakers said in a statement. “It’s clear this Administration never expected her to be confirmed by the Senate given her lack of qualifications to serve as a U.S. Attorney, and instead wanted to end-run around the Senate and the Judiciary Committee.”New information is expected to be released on Thursday about the weekend mass shooting at Buford’s on Austin’s West Sixth Street.Austin Police Chief Lisa DavisAUSTIN, Texas — If you drive on Texas toll roads, you’ve likely seen the signs, the tags on windshields, or maybe even a notice in your mailbox.
