A federal judge has dismissed the case against former President Donald Trump concerning the handling of classified documents , citing concerns about the legality of the special counsel's appointment. In a 93-page order, Judge Aileen Cannon sided with the defense, stating that the Justice Department illegally appointed the special counsel who brought the charges against Donald Trump .Elizabeth Beske, a professor at American University, provided further insight into the judge's reasoning.
The indictment claimed Trump improperly stored classified documents at his Mar-a-Lago estate and refused to return them when asked. This led to dozens of felony charges against him.Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer criticized the decision by Cannon, who was appointed by Trump.'It must be appealed immediately. This is further evidence that Judge Cannon cannot handle this case impartially and must be reassigned,' Schumer said.
