Robert Telles, the former Nevada politician convicted of murdering journalist Jeff German in September 2022, wants to change attorneys as he seeks toTelles filed a motion with Clark County District Court to dismiss his public defender and have an alternate counsel appointed. However, Judge Michelle Leavitt, who presided over the murder trial, said Tuesday that she did not "have jurisdiction to even entertain this, so it's off calendar."
A jury convicted Telles, the former Clark County public administrator, of first-degree murder for the 2022 killing of Las Vegas Review-Journal reporter Jeff German. He was sentenced toRobert Draskovich, Telles' attorney at trial, said he was not contracted to continue through the appeals process and was granted a motion to withdraw following sentencing in October. An attorney with the Clark County Public Defender's Office was appointed as his replacement.
A notice of appeal was filed with the Nevada Supreme Court in November, but in a hand-written note filed with Clark County District Court, Telles argued that his public defender failed to keep him "reasonably informed and promptly comply with reasonable requests for information.""Defendant has absolutely no faith in the Clark County Public Defender and there is no hope of resolving the concern," Telles wrote.
