Former NFL and Pittsburgh Steelers linebacker Clark Haggans died in June at age 46 from complications of chronic alcohol abuse, the Larimer County Coroner's Office announced Monday.

Ex-NFL and Pittsburgh Steelers linebacker Clark Haggans died in June at age 46 from complications of chronic alcohol abuse, the Larimer County Coroner's Office announced Monday. Haggans died from complications of chronic alcohol use, according to the Larimer County Coroner’s Office. He died June 19 in Fort Collins, Colorado, which is where he played collegiate football at Colorado State University.

Following his standout career at CSU from 1996 to 1999, Haggans was drafted by the Pittsburgh Steelers in the fifth round of the 2000 NFL Draft. He played 13 seasons in the NFL, including his first eight in Pittsburgh, where he helped lead the Steelers to win Super Bowl XL, 21-10, over the Seattle Seahawks in 2006. He recorded five tackles and one sack in Super Bowl XL.

Following eight seasons in Pittsburgh, Haggans also played four seasons for the Arizona Cardinals and one season with the San Francisco 49ers before retiring from the NFL after the 2012 season. He finished his NFL career with 520 tackles, 46.5 sacks, 16 forced fumbles, five fumbles recovered, and one interception in 172 games played, including 104 starts.in 2015.
