Former Penn State star Jahan Dotson will not have his fifth-year option picked up by the Philadelphia Eagles.
Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver Jahan Dotson is tackled short of the goal line by Kansas City cornerback Jaylen Watson during the first half of the NFL Super Bowl 59 football game, Sunday, Feb. 9, 2025, in New Orleans.
As expected, the Philadelphia Eagles will not pick up Dotson’s fifth-year option for the 2026 season, according to a Wednesday report by Dotson is set to remain with the Eagles for the upcoming season. But as he looks to prove himself to the Eagles, he’ll also have an eye on free agency following the 2025 campaign. Dotson was acquired by the Eagles prior to last season by dealing a third-round pick to the Washington Commanders, who selected the Nazareth native 16th overall in the 2022 draft. Dotson, a 2021 first-team All-Big Ten honoree at Penn State, has accumulated 1,257 yards and 11 touchdowns on 103 catches in three NFL seasons. He was more productive with Washington in 2022 and 2023 before taking on the No. 3 receiver role with the Eagles last year. Working behind receivers A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith — as well as tight end Dallas Goedert — in the pecking order, Dotson had 19 catches for 216 yards last regular season. Dotson did have a memorable postseason. In Super Bowl LIX, he caught two passes for 42 yards, including a 27-yarder in the first quarter that was originally ruled a touchdown. Dotson also snagged a touchdown in the Eagles’ Wild Card win over the Green Bay Packers. It will be interesting to see if Philadelphia selects any wide receivers in this weekend’s NFL draft — and how that might affect Dotson’s role within the offense.
