Former Columbus police officer Joel Mefford, 35, of London, Ohio, pleaded guilty in federal court to multiple drug-related charges.
The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of Ohio says Joel Mefford, 35, of London, Ohio , pleaded guilty to two counts of possessing with intent to distribute 500 grams or more of cocaine, one count of possessing with intent to distribute 5 kilograms or more of cocaine, and one count of money laundering.Mefford was arrested in January after he was accused of illegally gaining access to the garage of a suspect during a drug investigation in February 2020.
On March 7, 2020, Mefford reportedly took a bag containing multiple kilograms of cocaine from a house on Ambleside Drive in Columbus and then arrested suspect. He is accused of going to another house and removing a kilogram of cocaine. Mefford submitted 1 kilogram of cocaine as evidence, then kept the other drugs to be sold, prosecutors say.
