Former NFL tight end Tyrone Davis is dead at the age of 50.
Davis died on Oct. 2, according to the Jeffress Funeral Home in Virginia. He was drafted by the New York Jets in 1995 as a wide receiver out of the University of Virginia. Davis was converted to a tight end before being traded to the Packers ahead of the 1997 season.“This is difficult to post,” former Packers offensive tackle Earl Dotson wrote on Facebook. “Rest in paradise teammate. This good man Tyrone Davis fought beside me on the NFL Green Bay Packers for years. Brother forever.
While at UVA, Davis set a school record of 28 touchdown receptions. He caught 13 touchdowns over the course of his eight-year NFL career, including Brett Favre’s 200th career touchdown pass in 1998.Davis is survived by his mother, Annie Davis, and four children, Maiya Booker, Damien Davis, Jarrett Gomez, and Mariah Gomez.
