JOHANNESBURG - Mxolisi Hoboyi started off pushing a shovel underground as a general mineworker at Arnot Coal mine in 2005. In June 2016, he was retrenched alongside hundreds of others when Eskom refused to renew the coal mine's contract.A decision was taken to reopen the mine and award mine workers 50 percent of the shares.“I never thought a day like this will come, as far back in 2015 when I was told I no longer have a job anymore.

“What happened in 2016 when we realised we are in a process of being faced out, a group of about eight employees, including myself we grouped together and formed a company. The main objectives of this company were only then to pursue to acquire the Arnot Coal mine,” Hoboyi said.
