William Upham, a medically retired Marine first lieutenant and Republican congressional candidaTe, has published a video calling President Donald Trump the Antichrist and stating he must be killed. the Marine Corps has responded, saying his comments violate his oath and do not reflect service values. Upham is running in a GOP primary against Rep. John Rutherford in Florida.
The Marine Corps has publically condemned statements created by William Upham, a former Marine who medically retired as a first lieutenant. In a social media poSt,the Corps stated that Upham's remarks, which include calling for the assassination of President Donald Trump, violate the oath he swore and are inconsistent with service values. upham, who previously worked as a prosecutor in Florida, is now running for Congress in Florida's 5th district against incumbent Republican John Rutherford.
In a six-minute video posted to his X account,Upham claimed he entered the race to fix a broken political system and restore bipartisanship. However, he asserted that the United States is broken under Trump's leadership since the president is an "enemy of God" and the "Antichrist.
" Upham cited Bible verses, called for an uprising against enemies within the U.S., and referenced an AI-generated image posted by Trump. He declared, "We're at war with evil... This is a war between God and the Antichrist... Donald J. Trump is the Antichrist...
He must be killed.
" Representative Cathy Cao, a Marine Corps veteran,responded on social media, calling Uphams statements unacceptable and emphasizing that he no longer represents Marine values. upham further claimed that the Book of Revelation is unfolding currently. While active-duty personell face strict restrictions on speech under the Uniform Code of Military Justice, retirees like Upham are not held to the same standard but could still face disipline for such statements.
The seat Upham seeks is solidly Republican according to the Cook Political Report, and he is challenging a five-term incumbent in the GOP primary
