Former Limpopo government spokesperson, Phuti Seloba, has vowed to challenge his dismissal, for allegedly telling a provincial EFF leader that Premier Stan Mathabatha was a “drunk” and “was often late for meetings”

Seloba described the disciplinary process that led to his dismissal as a “witch-hunt” and a “contaminated process”, alleging that a decision to fire him as head of provincial communication was taken while he was still struggling to meet with his lawyer because of the Covid-19 coronavirus lockdown regulations. As a result he missed the deadline to submit his mitigation factors.

In his testimony, Buthane argued that Seloba, was paid to be the first line of defence, had failed to defend the premier. He told the disciplinary hearing that even if the premier came smelling of alcohol, Seloba ought to have said it was “perfume and not alcohol”. “I am going to challenge [the dismissal], with papers expected to be served on Monday. Both the verdict and the sanction were taken through a contaminated process. We’re not fighting anybody but I view the avenues available to me as an opportunity to clear my name,” he said.

He told the disciplinary hearing that even if the premier came smelling of alcohol, Seloba ought to have said it was “perfume and not alcohol”.
