Horton-Tucker is not bitter or angry about being traded to Utah for Patrick Beverley, but he does come into Friday’s rematch with an allegedly tanking team that is outplaying his former star-laden …

“Understanding who we had, the ball came out of my hands a lot from my second year to my third,” he said. “But I feel like that’s a part of the NBA: The best players adapt.”

As the Lakers changed much of their roster this offseason, new coach Darvin Ham talked about the fit of LeBron James, Anthony Davis and Russell Westbrook finally coming to fruition. But THT wasn’t much in the dialogue., he was widely seen as on the trading block. The timing of the trade was especially awkward: When ESPN broke that the Lakers were trading for Beverley, Horton-Tucker was with Austin Reaves at Dodgers Stadium – on Lakers Night, no less. After getting a heads up from his agent that a trade might be in the works, the report came across the wire 10 minutes later, spoiling the teammates’ outing at the ballpark.

Horton-Tucker said he’s tried to take only positives from his experience with the Lakers, and how he’s moving forward with the Jazz. He left the Lakers with three years worth of memories around some of the game’s great players and a championship ring to boot. “Just being able to be around great players, just coming into the league with an understanding of how to work hard, how to become a star in the NBA,” he said of his time with the Lakers. “Being able to be around them guys, I appreciate it. I appreciate , too. Just welcoming me with open arms, even Bron texts me to this day, wishing me luck and stuff like that.”
